Play In The North
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) On the initial play it looks as though Trams, Ponsonby and V.M.C.A. will be hardest' to beat. No further information about the Australian trip is to hand yet, but the general opinion is that New Zealand will be lucky if the tour materialises. OESULTS on the whole were more or I* less as expected. For a time it looked as though Manurewa, last year's B champions, were at least going to hold Trams. Their bustling methods rather disorganised the transporters and their combination was excellent for a long time. Eventually Trams won very easily 6-2. The Auckland centre, Spencer, was m excellent form and started the season by netting four times, while Davis, who wap out of. the game last season, showed he had lost little of his 6ld form and got tho other goals. Ponsonby were too good for Thistle, who sadly missed Kay and Chalmers. Bob Innes.was m splendid form on the rightwing and was ably seconded by Forrester inside him and Morrison at right half. Wright at half for Thistle, and Hibbert worked hard and tirelessly to stave off the opposition, but m vain, and the blue and blacks won 4 -i; Corinthians celebrated their rather unexpected promotion to the top-grade by beating Onehunga, 2-0, after a pretty even set-to. The westerners have lost several of last year's players, but Whimster has returned, taking up the right-wing position, while Davies of Celtic and Griffiths are newcomers. c ' Corinthians had strengthened their side with. Webb, 'who has just arrived . from Bradford, Grimes, of Masterton ( and Williamson, late of Manurewa. Zuill could not have saved the two scoring shots and played well for Onehunga. Johnston at back played a magnificent game alike m attack and defence. Whimster was unlucky on more, than one occasion, his passes not being accepted. :■:■ ■ ■ ' ._.. •■ , . . •'•-; - •/■:..■■;
