AMBERLEY IS WEEK'S SOUTHERN FIXTURE
HAVE FORM _TO_GUIDE THEM Arikiwai Has Chance In Chief Event On Saturday CLASS HORSES MAY NOT BE PRESENT
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative.) Those who attend the Amberley meeting on Saturday will have oceans of form to assist them, and at this. time of the year form is a fairly reliable guide. ■■_."
THE Starkey Memox'ial Handicap, the ■I chief event on the programme, drew some class nominations, but it is unlikely that the acceptances will include either First Sight or Gay Crest. Full Feather is very well at present, but ten furlongs is beyond his pet distance and Arikiwai, one of the unlucky runners m the. Great Autumn Handicap, reads a lot better than the Clifford horse. '.-..,' Old Haze is now racing more generously than he used to and with 7.13 he must be counted among the possibilities. Everything below Haze represents little better than hack form. Don Jose gave promise m the summer and Topere, if he were at his best, would have a chance, but a tender leg has kept him m light work lately. The "Viscount, a full-brother to Count Cavour, has shown signs of staying, but has no form m open company to recommend him. Little Discourse, a fair second-rater, lias been leased by Dick Longley from Fred Carmont, but she raced disappointingly at the Metropolitan meeting, and though on the, minimum she does not appeal. Arikiwai stands m a class by himself and next to him Haze seems the soundest choice. If. Ranelagh starts m the Glasneivan' Hack Handicap he is sure to run well as the racing he had at Riccarton would improve him. If he is reserved for a later race Straightcourse and The Bailiff will merit support. Six-furlong hightweights are never very satisfactory races and hack
sprinters which can ,cai*ry a bit of weight always have a show. Solmuri and Royal Heritage are two which have form to recommend them, while Audience at her best, would have a chance pri the minimum. Though top-weight with nine stone^in the saddle, Silver Coot represents the- best " class of those engaged m the Amberley Handicap. ■ Ranelagh, if reserved for this event,
is well placed with three pounds ab,ove the minimum. If Lord Thomond pays up for the Seadown Handicap, the hack sprint race, he will be supported even thougii he is well up m the weights. Sapient and Pixie Gold should also run weii. Solgele and Merry Peal look the most likely couple of those engaged m the Novice Handicap.
