COUTH ISLANDERS have had every reason to be disappointed with the season's crop of two-year- olds seen out m the south, but on Monday they had the pleasure of seeing something out; of the ordinary and it was Rod Murphy and Gesture that provided the party. The Chief Ruler filly made her first appearance m the South Island when she contested, the. C.J.C. Champagne Stakes and from the opening of the machine the public made ho mistake m what they thought she would do with the field, i She did not begin as well as either Charmaine or Spoon, but when Charlie Emerson let her have her head running for the false rail she gathered up the leaders m very easy fashion and after that it was merely a matter of Emerson judging the distance she should win by.
