WIRELESS SET FOR MAORI BOY

FREDDY HILL'S PLIGHT EVOKES RESPONSE UREDDY HILL, the crippled Maori *■ boy whose dife was transformed owing to radio, wiil probably have a set of his own soon, judging by the response to the story about him m "Truth" two weeks ago. Mr. -Harold Saunders, of Willis Street, Wellington, has informed Uncle Toby, of 2YA, that he will give a fivevalve set to the boy. The set is minus batteries and a loud speaker, but only a few additional cash donations will be required to defray the cost of these. Up to date £ 1/17/6 has been received by "Tx-uth" and 2YA for ' this purpose. An Otago reader who describes herself as "an old woman of 67," writes that Freddy Hill's plight so appealed to her that, although' she is poor she- will donate £1 if required. "An Ulstertye" contributes 5/-, "to bring a little sunshine into a sick boy's life." A number of letters have been received from children on the subject. Here is an extract from a typical one: — ' We have each sent Freddy Hill a present for Easter and if you should get any donations for a wireless set for him, Daddy says we can empty our money-boxes and send the money to you. lam just 12 years of age, but I have. sent a letter to the Maori boy and hope he will soon get better. It is hoped that a few more donations will be made early, to defray the cost of a loud speaker, batteries and aerial equipment, and to pay the license fee to enable Freddy Hill to realise his dream.
