A HOT 'TEAM

(From '.N.Z. Truth's" Taranaki Rep.) BERT COOKE brought a hot team from the Wairarapa to the Kaponga seven-a-side and after a solid struggle m the opening match against Okaiawa ■ (5-3). went on to defeat Opunake (15-nil), Old Boys 025-nil), -and.Takapa m the final (29-nil), a total of 74 points to 3. ' The Masterton team comprised Cooke, Null, Faulkner, Le Quesne, South, ..Clement and Roach. All had a hand m the scoring, Clement notched two , tries and converted ten, Faulkner 5 tries, Mill 3, Roach 3, Cooke 2, Smith 1, while Le Quesne converted three, thus completing one day's bag. Ft. Guy, son of the sole selector, Arthur Guy, was the only one to score against the elusive opponents. For the third successive year the Casey Shield goes to Wairarapa, Carterton taking it m 1928 and Masterton m. 1929 and 1930. With the exception of Eltham, every .senior team m Taranaki competed m the Dewar ten-a-side at New Plymouth on Easter Monday. Taranaki teams are m great nick for the opening of the competition next week, and hosts of players are keen. Stratford have a great forward pack including Walter, Kivell. Young, Bond Penniall, Were, with Fryday as rover and an improved set of backs. What beats them can be proclaimed the northern champions. _ '■„<■ Clifton have a greatly improved team. Pat Ward is training hard. The three New Plymouth teams are speedy, but light. Tupaka may be the . best. Inglewood is also very light, but fast. •Opunake have nearly all last year's year's fifteen, including that clever inside pair, Hohara and Robinson. They are training hard. Okaiawa. with the backs led by ,D Johnson and the forwards by Ike, will be greatly improved team. If the championship went to the southern port it would give the game a great boost..
