Nancy Carroll Tells How To Be Healthy And Slender
It is far more serious to be under weight than over weight. Many girls, m attempting to solve the problem of reducing, to gain the much-admired boyish figure, lose flesh and vitality so quickly that they become susceptible to disease. Further, underweight makes one moody, despondent and unduly sensitive.
IN this day of boyish figures it is surprising to hear of anyone complaining of being too thin, but yet there are many girls whose too angular arms, necks and legs give them cause for worry. Many, too, who Rave undergone a drastic reducing campaign, realise its perils and are making a sensible effort to regain their normal health and good disposition. Personally, I have never tried to reduce! By proper eating and balancing of diet I have always been able to keep my weight steady. Also, I am proud of my womanly curves. I can wear a frock and look slim and dainty without appearing like a scarecrow personified. The fashions of to-day oall for slimness and boyishness, but not skinnyness. If you are slightly under-weight, a few simple health rules followed : regulary should bring you back to normal In a short time. ' The diet should consist of fruit, vegetable and other foods ■ easily digested. ■Avoid, cakes, pies, lollies and heavy
desserts. They contain fat-producing elements, but since they do not digest entirely the body receives little benefit from such foods. Instead, use stewed fruit, custards, tapioca and fruit puddings. ( Two extra light meals m the morning and afternoon, consisting of milk and biscuits, * are an excellent help. Walking, dancing and other exercises to help develop the muscles will make one gain, if they are not carried out too rigorously. •Plenty of sleep is all-important. Sleep at least nine or ten hours each Tiight, and if possible take naps m the afternoon. Sleep rejuvenates the system,- and a healthy, normal functioning cf all the organs is essential to sound body building. If you are a great deal below normal weight, it would be best, to consult a physician for a complete examination. Sometimes the reason for your lack of weight is beyond your control. But at any cost, remain and maintain your health and spirit. Remember, it is better to be fat, healthy and jolly than thin, sickly and irritable.
