Carnival For Bowlers In Auckland (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) •THIS year's bowling has been oiitstand--1 ing m respect to clubs m the province breaking all previous records for entries received for tournaments. Carlton commenced by staging a one-day event of forty-eight rinks. . This was followed by Remuera with fifty-six,_ and this Easter the Cambridge club will conduct a three-day's tournament with an entry of seventy-two rinks, making another new record for any one club m the Dominion. Aldred, Wooliey, Moir and P. J. Scantlebury of the Auckland Club, Were the winners last season of this event, and the same team has entered again this year. Attention Is now focussed on the Auckland Centre's Easter tournament. Seventy-four teams have entered the fours competition. The winners of last season, Haszard, Parsons, Richmond and R. Mlllen of the, Epsom . Club, who won the event m fine style, have not entered. Carlton, the strongest club m the city, heads the list., with eight teams of excellent playing calibre. Among these m order of strength are the following skips of outstanding merit: • Truscott, H. C. Clarke, G. Hosking, F. M. Ritchie, S. E. Lamb and A. Holmes. ; The chances of this club coming out with the ultimate honors are very good. Harry de Lautiay, of Epsom, who won this event m 1927, has m excellent. team m Lamb, Bruce and Taylor, and should make an excellent showing. Grey Lynn has its famous team m Caddy, Liversidge, E. Buckley and Whittle entered. This, team, which was run-ner-up m the recent Christmas tournament, is always. a factor to be reckoned witll. Four good teams out of six entered by Ponsonby are very strong. They are under the following skips: Parsons, J. Dury, Letham and J. Dick. Rawhlti comes forward with five teams. One under J. P. Wooller, which Includes young Nell Thomson, the boy bowler, who created a sensation In the recent champion of champions tournament. Remuera has, a team which includes Charley Amtan, a Dunedin bowler of outstanding merit, who, comes with a fine reputation, also Roto Graham and Lew Russell. Rocky Nook presents Keatley's team, the winners of 1928. St Hellers includes Harry Wright's team of fine ,playing quality. " '•■ Among the players mentioned the winners of this event should be found. 440 bowlers are taking part m the tournament, which includes the Executive fours first/ year players, and Easter foura competition.
