THOSE CHARGES

Union Makes Slight Reductions (From "N.Z. Truth's' Wellington Rep.) The New Zealand Rugby Union has had Its annual meeting, and after voicing their manifold grievances, delegates have departed satisfied that it would be unwise to make a change m the management committee which sits m Wellington. "THE new president ,is Dr. Adams, of a Wanganui. The. doctor has taken a keen interest m Rugby affairs, and he should fill the bill admirably during the tour of the British team. Particular interest surrounded the remit from the management committee, which suggested, a reversion to the old rules. After a lengthy and at times rambling discussion, it was resolved to revert to the old kick-into-touch rule for this season, but m view of the determined attitude of the Auckland delegates special dispensation will be granted to those Unions desirous of playing their club games under the present N.Z. Rules. Another matter which kept delegates jumping to their feet was the debatable question of broadcasting Rugby matches. Mr. H. H. Sterling took up the attack on behalf of the paying public and as his arguments carried convincing weight, it was finally >esolved that the Broadcasting Company have permission to broadcast all the matches In which the British team will participate. The arguments against this resolution were extremely feeble, and particularly so the suggestion of Mr. S. Wilson (Canterburj'), tftat it was just as reasonable for the Railway Department to be expected to 6arry people free to the big matches as to argue that the Broadcasting Company should be allowed to report the matches without paying a fee. . Anyhow, there will be general rejoicing m the hospitals and m the way-backs. Delegates were m no way unanimous on the question of charges of admission to the British matches. The outcome of the -debate was that the management committee held a special meeting and decided to amend the charges originally arranged. • For provincial matches the charges will now be: — Admission to Ground 2/-, School Children 1/-, Grandstand 7/6. For Test., matches: — Admission to Ground 2/6 including tax, School Children 1/--, Grandstand 10/-, with a number of*reserved seats' for the Test matches. at £1. Bringing an English team to New Zealand is an expensive undertaking and the union- cannot be blamed for fixing prices' thatjjwill enable it to meet its big obligations. -, -. The visiting team is requesting the New ■Zealand Union to cut out the Nelsonmatch. This is m the nature of a slap m the face, and "Truth" is right behind chairman -Staii Dean in' 'his effort to mr duce the visitors" to' remain faithful to the programme as arranged. •
