WINNER TAKES A GOLD CUP
Feilding Will Serve Manawatu i And Rangitikei
It being jubilee year, the Feilding Club, after a Wonderful spring- gathering-, should experience just as successful an Easter meeting.
IN the spring the owner, the trainer and the jockey riding the Cup winner were presented with handsome gold trophies, and for the big race on Saturday there is a gold cup for the owner and a pair of glasses for the trainer. The same state of affairs prevails at this fixture as with the majority of the remaining holiday gatherings — at time of writing the acceptances had not closed. The Manchester Gold Cup will probably, find one or two northerners m attendance, and Maori Boy after his three recent wins will be fancied. Then there is Cashier, which will' get a course to suit him, and a repetition of his form at Awapunl on Boxing Daly would give him the verdict. -:■;..-. / Pahu, in ' his first outing m open company, won over the distance, and he is on the improve all the time. Three that may take part m the finish are Cashier, Pahu and Maori Boy. ' Provided he has recovered from his Awapuni knock, Whenuanui should carry his weight m the Hurdles, but it may be found that some of those down near the bottom will be a nuisance. ' For instance, Zippor and.Rouex may cart the topweight along,. and that will fix him. . . : In the absence of Equitant from the Ongo Hack, the money should come for Werata, which won at both Masterton and Hastings. .-'■•• Hunting Boy, minus. 'a ■ race, Statuary, Plako, Tentcall and Callapttf are all useful over the journey, ' but the
Burgess gelding may be too good for them. It has not taken Potoaf orm long to get to the top of the weights* and he has his share m the hack seven. ; Still, he has improved out of all knowledge since going to Mrs. McDonald, and has to be respected. Cadland, Latakia and I'm Alone will have supporters, and Latakia may be the one to most trouble the topweight. All/ the: best of the second-class sprinters are m the Mangaone.Handicap, and Consent after his Palmerston victory may be favorite. The stable also has Equitant engaged. . :•■ The Raider may be able to hold •Benzora, but one that may beat the pair of them is Arikinui, which had the right form at Woodville. Public money may make Consent and Arikinui the favorites. The Onepuhi Handicap will be a sort of trial for the Hack Cup the second day, and for that reason is likely to be closely followed. The weight may hold Austerity, but it should not trouble TunbrJdge, though he is not very big. With something better m view for the second day the race. has its difficulties, but Tunbridge and Auctioneer are liked. \ '• There should ' be ,no trouble to sort out those to carry the money m th,e concluding event. . In this type of raee — a seven-furlong affair — both Ruanui and fc^anly are very much at home, and if they fall many will wish that they had hot gone to the 1 meeting.
