MORE GRIST FOR MILL

Gesture's Monopoly In Champagne (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) He would be a game man indeed who confidently supports anything to lower the colors of Rob Murphy's filly, Gesture, m the Riccarton Champagne Stakes on Monday. HTHE Chief Ruler filly has proved herA self the outstanding two-year-old of the season, and the public will be better employed spending their time sorting out something to pay second money. By going for the Tea Tray filly, Spoon, they cannot go far wrong. She has been the best filly m the South this year, not excluding I Praise, and nothing at Riccarton has been working better over the past three weeks. Whether by herself or with a mate Spoon has been returning the best ! sprint figures of the morning, and she is the most likely youngster to stretch the Murphy filly out — if such can be done. The Aurasio gelding, Adelphi, looks the right sort to develop into, a Derby horse, but he doesn't, appear as yet to have the early speed that Spoon has even though he has a lot of pace and stays on. j Among the other likely starters, Lineage, Charmaine and Winsome Hind have fair form, but it looks a two-horse race between: GESTURE, SPOON.
