HOLLINGS' DAY

A Double Century For Club (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) pONDITIONS were perfect for the cons' tinuation of local , senior cricket m Wellington on 'Saturday. The- wickets were firm and batsmen generally took pos- : s'.e sslon of the

bowling and registered big scores. The outstanding batsman was A. M. Ho 1 1 mg s who, playing for "Wellington against Old Boys, made 213 out of the grand total of 389. There was not hi n g fluky about Hollings' performance. He brought into play a variety of strokes, and beyond giving a couP 1 c of difficult

chances his exhibition was full of

thrills. R. Crook (120), W. J. R. Christopherson (100 not .out), and D. W Virtue (63), representing Kllblrnle against Hutt, made matters very lively, for at the close of play they had helped to knock up a total of 460. for the loss of 6 wickets. Crook and Christopherston pelted McGirr & Co. without mercy. This aggressive style is gradually, but happily, making its appearance m our senior cricket. . Crook, who left Institute for Kilbirnie this season, is a lad who has.shot to the front' rapidly and Saturday's century is his second m senior cricket. He is a useful man to any side as apart from his capabilities as a batsman he can send down good, deliveries with the ball. ....-•■ Another feature of Saturday's play was . Doneghue's hat trick when Midland was m action against Institute. He took 3 wickets at a cost "of 26 runs. Foley was the only batsman to shape confidently when Institute were at the wickets and m a bright display he carried his bat for 84. Wellington and Auckland will riieet m a Plunket Shield match on the Basin Reserve to-morrow week. The result of this game will decide which is to be the premier cricket province for the 1929---1930 season. ....:. Stan. Brice, Wellington's sole selector, has chosen. the following players to- go into practice and the final selection will be made next week: ,T. C. Lowry (Moawhanga), D. Cameron (Rangitikei), H B. Massey (Wairarapa), C. S. Dempster (Institute), H. M. McGlrr (Hutt). K. C. James (Old Boys), A. M. Hollings (Wellington),. W. F. Airey ( Wellington), H. Foley (Institute), M. Henderson (Institute), R. H. C. McKenzie (University), E. A. McLeod (University), W. A. Baker (Midland), S. Ward (Kilbirnie), and E. D. Blundell. (Wellington). .
