PIONEER OF PICTURES

IF there is one figure more interesting than another m the New Zealand film world it is Alf. Linley. Linley . may be

described as the pioneer of picture shows m this Dominion. Pie opened the old Choral Hall m Courtenay Place on the site where His Majesty's now stands, as ' the first permanent picture .theatre m this country. Xj ml cy ■ ha s m any reminiscences to tell of those early days and will describe

how on one occasion the film depicting Queen Victoria's funeral was screeiied again minus the cortege as the coronation of King Edward. Ijinley's shows were known from one end of New Zealand to the other. He is now retired, but the smell of the grease paint stiil has its attraction for this genial showman and it would not. be surprising if he breaks into the business again soon.
