FOR INSTITUTE
Massey Steps Out In Capital Again (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) Although it wasn't a batsman's day last Saturday m the capital, there were one or two bright exceptions. Massey of Institute, knocked up an' attractive 82 before he succumbed to a straight one • from Macallam. ]W[ASSEY, up to the present, has been ' playing m Wairarapa this season, ' and his appearance m the ranks of Institute on Saturday was welcomed, more especially as Foley was still nursing an injured hand. ' Massey proved that his representation m the Wellington eleven against the Englishmen the previous week was well merited. His knock during the week-end was an enterprising one, his scoring being the result of shots all round the wickets. He gave one
chance early m his innings, but appeared set for his century — and would have reached it — had he -not stepped out with a wild lash to a straight fast one. Dempster, Instian d Wellington rep., failed to get going against Varsity on Saturday. He was still feeling the results of injuries re-
ceiv£d "against the M.C.C. and took things easily. A feature of the week-end cricket was the bowling of Parsloe for Old Boys. Bowling against Midland, he was responsible for the capture of six wickets at an average cost of a little ' over seven runs each. Parsloe also displayed some enterprise with the bat m his compilation uiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiii>iiiiiiiiiiiiiiimi:iniiiiiiii)iiiiiiiiimiiiiiii!iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiimi
of 30 runs. A player of promise, he bids fair to carve a place for himself In Wellington representative games. Batting for Old Boys on Saturday,. E. Bull showed that he is something of a fearless hitter. He went for the bowling right from the jump off. and ran up a tidy 60. He has the makings of a good player with a little more experience. A consistent batsman^ m the ranks of the villagers this season is evergreen M. Nicholls. Each Saturday se.es him add materially to his si.d.e's total and during the week-end he knocked up an attractive 67. The game he
bad against the Englishmen ttias improved the versatile Airey. On Saturday, batting for Wellington against Kilbirnie he placed 68 to his credit before he lifted one to Hepburn. Airey will give a good account of himself m the Wellington Plunket Shield eleven against Canterbury at the week-
McGirr captured a couple of wickets on Saturday. He still remains one of the most versatile cricketers m the city. The following players have been selected to meet Canterbury on Saturday, m the first Plunket ' Shield game of the season; — T. C. Lowry (Hawkes Bay), captain. W. F. Airey (Wellington). R. W Hope (Petone) H. M. Lambert (Old Boys). J. R. Lamason (Old Boys). R. H. C. Mckenzie (University). C. S. Dempster (In- . stitute) H. M. McGirr (Hutt). M. Henderson (Institute). F. T.
