The absence of Dickinson, Blunt and Shepherd, probably the three best men playing m Otago to-day, will be felt m the team which meets Auckland on December 24. TAKING the side chosen to represent ■*■ the southern': colors, ' the batting will be even right through, tout not stylish. The bowling, will be weak. Alloo, captain and all-rounder, is useful on a sticky w-icket. An old hand, he should be one of the braces of the team. Cavanagh 'has done nothing much so far this season, but invariably comes to light, m- rep. matches.; , He is a useful change bowler. Clarke, one time of "Wellington and Dunedin. and now of InyercargfU, is a sound wicketkeeper. His inclusion should satisfy Southland supporters, who are constantly advocating the claim for one or. more of their reps. Dunning, ex-Oxford and Auckland, has not yet struck form, but possesses too many possibilities as a rep. to be' left out. Zimmerman, Oamaru's crack, is m wonderful form this season, and already has made 3 centuries for Oamaru. He is a useful left-hand change bowler, and is i keen m any department.. • Monk is the nearest approach to a fast bowler, the team will have. He is a hard: Hitter, and but for ■ a likelihood to hoist the ball, is entertaining to watch. -' > Blnies is a much improved all-rounder,: and decidedly a coming cricketer. ! Qalland, the live-wire of the team, . will, for the first rep, match for a long time, be relieved of wicket* keeping. He will be of great value to the. field and, 'moreover, will be available to take an over If the side . .; is In difficulty, as most .probably It " will bfl. '•"■■■"'- ' Knight, who usually opens, is a solid proposition, but is' Jekyel and Hydish m that he ' Kits out m club' matches, but plays the rock m rep. matches. McMullan, Is reliable and a rearsticker at the wicket. Incidentally, he is a great field/ ..-■ .»• •.,.' .......... - . Vorrath.is a ;y6ung.' player who -has had a couple of season's experienpe m rep. games, arid 'has some.pretensions. pretensions as. a moderate bowler.
