When . Wright appeared before Mr, Justice McGregor for sentence, he was * represented Mr. ,H. F. O'Leary, who made an eloquent appeal for leniency on behalf of the prisoner. Mr. O'Leary informed the court, that Wright had borrowed the money for a friend, who had lot him down. Wright ' resigned his position, thinking that the superannuation which he .would draw would enable him to repay the department. There was,. however, a hitch m getting the. money, and.he .came to, .'Wel-lington-'arid'.raJs^d just under £100. He was just leaving to go to Wanganui. to repay the money when he was arrested.
