T.ATBR m the day -on which Mrs. L» Heron died, Constable Southworth and Detective Studholme arrested a man named Martin Joseph Melville on a charge of supplying a certain article, knowing that it was to be used for an illegal purpose. The hearing of the charge and the inquest proceedings were adjourned at the first hearing to enable a postmortem examination to be made. When tjie inquest was resumed the evidence of. the doctor who attended the dead woman and that of a neighbor — a woman— was taken. Mr. C. R; Orr-Walker, S.M., sitting as coroner, returned a verdict that death was due to internal haemorrhage. . . Subsequently, the charge against Melville was heard, Detective i Studholme appearing for the police. ''■The evidence of Dr. A. S. Mclnnes disclosed that he had examined Mrs.
liad procured a certain article from him about six weeks or two months ago. ■ Hancock had. informed Melville that it was not usual to sell that particular kind of article without a doctor's order, but Melville replied that he wanted it for his father. Constable Southworth said he interviewed Melville on May 31, m company with Detective Studholme, when accused had made and signed a statement. ; The statement read: "I am a single man. I knew the deceased, Ada Heron.. I have been a neighbor for the ' Mast eight years, and for the past two years have had my meals at her house. "About two months ago she came to me and told me that she was m a certain condition.- She asked me to procure for her a certain article. She blamed me for her condition.
