A LOCOMOTIVE EXPERT

WHEN we sit-in the railway carriage watching the scenery and scooping the cinders from our eyes, we seldom think of the men whose work it is to keep the railways running. The mere fact that they are running is enough for us. Yet there are men keeping watch over the efficiency of the whole system of the railways. Not the least of these is I_. w. Robertson, late Locomotive Engineer at the railway headquarters, Christchurch, and who— quite recently — folded his tents and silently went up to Auckland where he has been appointed locomotive engineer for the Auckland district. L..W.R. has made quite a respectable job for himself through his ability and integrity. Not for him are the narrow ways of narrow folk. He knows his job, he knows his men — and he gets the most out of both.
