•THE speed he turned on from the 1 word, "go" made it a Herculean task for the back-markers to reach him. He was ■at the two furlongs disc m 35scc, where Tom Thumb and Talent were on his wheel. The trio were eierht lengths clear of Pageant, Native Prince, Padlock and Logan Park, Bonny Logan and Free' Advice being farther back. There was no chancre as they swopt past the mile peg m 2.15, but entering on the last six furlongs Native Prince, Pageant and Logan Park began to make up some ground. Going to the twelve furlongs Native Prince put m a run which took him ud to within four lengths of the leader, ! The watch at the mile and a-half
showed 3.24 3/5, with Mate o* Mine still going strong m front. Racing along the back stretch Logan Park moved up to. the second division, but. could not get through. At the far bend Talent and Tom Thumb began to fall back. . Entering the" straight Logan Park an,d Padlock were placed under a hard drive. Logan Park headed Padlock at the distance post, . '. In spite ;ot a rousing drive on Tomkinsoti's part Logan Park could not reach Mate o' Mine, 'which "paced his la,st two furlongs m 33 2/5. , Mate o' Mine was bred m. Southland and comes of a family that will improve with age. ; He is owned by R. Grant and is trained by Dill Edwards, who drove him a heady race. •
