Evening Ensemble Is The Mode CVEN the coming of summer cannot dim the interest of the average woman m evening frocks and their concomitant cloaks and accessories. All the smartest shops are offering a delectable assembly of the latest vogue — the evening ensemble. Many characteristics that went out when first fashion turned her back on informality are with us again. The sports motif has been controlled to suit the situation, and though the garconne touch is completely ousted many of its characteristics have been coaxed back to the fold. The ensemble for the evening is the most luxurious of fashions, but it need not be entirely beyond the reach of the average woman's purse. The wrap is usually darker than the gown, and m the same color, or even of the same material. Occasionally the gown matches the fur that trims the wrap and the coat contrasts. The smartest wraps are m velvet or m heavy crepe de chine lined satin. The first consideration is that the wrap must look well with long dresses of uneven length. Very frequently the wrap is of the dolman type, caught well and tightly around the figure and Moused above the waistline. It must necessarily be short to allow for the popular fullrtess be- - low the hips, but may have a big fur collar and no cuffs, or huge cuffs and no fur at the neckline. Shirred sleeves are a pleasant innovation. In this way the wrap becomes a part of the dress, and it is now m general use. Another feature of the mode is that the wraps follow the same lines as the frock, and have the same salient characteristics. A wide skirted tuile frock may have a wrap of frilled tulle, and a gold . lame frock looks well with, a wrap made of lame and flared below the hips to follow the frock line. . "With these sumptuous confections for the evening go the most fascinating of small jewelled, flowered and feathered hats, fitting closely to the head rind following the dress scheme evennn details. One gorgeous frock and wrap recently appeared at a Parisian theatre with a huge painted peacock on its black velvet ground, and with it was -worn a, hat made of peacock tips — evidently the wearer was not afraid of a little bad luck following her on her magnificent way. Shoes also follow the ensemble plan, repeating the color motif or pattern m their texture. Velvet and crepe de chine for shoes have taken the place of last season's dyed or painted kid and satin.
