Just after passing the mile and ahalf disc Rebel broke and dropped right back. The watch for ,that distance read 3.30 with Kotuku Jack still going nicely m front with Warepa, Harvest Child, Shadowland, William the Great and Fight Ever. Once m line for home Warepa retired beaten and Harvest Child, Fight Ever, Shadowland and William the Great made a forward move. A furlong from home Harvest Child headed Kotuku Jack, which was being tackled by Shadowland and William the Great, 'but after a desperate finish for second honors Kotuku Jack beat Shadowland by ' three-quarters of a length, with William the Great close up. Ariki cut up badly at the start, and Invader went to a tangle.
