Popular Westport Meeting XMAS REVIEW (By "The Toff.") One of the most popular gatherings on the Christmas circuit is the Westport meeting. 'THE gathering will open on Boxing day. The star attraction is the 'Williams* Memorial of 22050va., to be thrashed out over two miles and half a furlong. y - . Bessie Dillon ran a decent race over the journey, at Greymouth m October and she must have a pretty good chance. So far Thorpee, Gold Rush and Peter Wilkins have not won or been conspicuous over a journey, but Smithfield won over a similar distance at Greymouth. The big sprint contest of the day is the Stockton Handicap. The distance will appeal to Thorpee which, off 124 yds. behind, should go close to wlnining. Kodie may be a much-improved pacer. . •
