Pink Note and Royal Saxon Are Fancied
(From "N.Z.. Truth's'"'' Sperial Chrisfcifiurch Representative.) There is a striking- absence of Canterbury-trained horses m this year's field for the Otago Handicap, to be run at Wingatui on Boxing Day.
THE race has attracted about the best handicap horses m commission iri the south. Set Sail's Oamaru win over nine furlongs was an impressive performance, but poor riding on some of the other candidates helped her a lot. Battle Colours ran so badly at Washdyke that he must be overlooked. Pink Note is going well, and will be suited better by the journey than he was at Riccarton. ■He is very well and with the weight should almost repeat his Mosgiel win m the spring. Queen Balboa's southern form reads well, but at even weights she must find it difficult to hold Royal Saxon, which was unlucky both days at Oamaru.
King^ Balboa has not yet proved himself the equal of his elder sister. Rotor has not lived up to the high opinions formed of him earlier this season. His stable companion, Sarnia, has done nothing to warrant support m this race, taking into account the fact that she was very unlucky at Oamaru. In the llghtr'weighted division, Lucy Locket has the best credentials. Taboo looks m need of a rest, while Vaward and Money Peer are out of their class, There are two which know the way round at Wingatui and they ought to be m it. ■ They are: PINK NOTE, ROYAL SAXON.
