Still Going Strong
SEVENTY years a resident of Auckland. Such is the -record of W. J. Boylan, one of the oldest identities of the Queen City, who m spite of his years is still m active business. W.J.B. can cast his mind back to the days when a creek ran through Queen Street and when the houses of "the city" could be counted m a few dozens. When he first arrived m Auckland Boylan was a youngster of seven, and m the years that have passed since he has seen changes and developments that he describes as "wonderful and amazing." A keen yachtsman m his day, he knew and still knows all there is to be known about sailing boats. Motoring, too, attracted him from the early days, and he was the possessor of a car m the days when they were curiosities and the terror of all horse traffic. A fine, upstanding figure, Boylan belies his years. His sense of humor is keen, and once he begins waxing reminiscent he has a store of excellent stories which m themselves constitute a vivid potted history of the city he knows and loves so well.
