Cricketer Cox

MEMBERS of the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association were keyed up to a pitch of excitement when the word was passed round that a player from Sussex was being brought out to coach them along. A number of cricket enthusiasts met the coaches, Bowley and Langridge, wnen they returned from England this season, but the eyes of the majority, especially the suburban members, were all for the short, thick-set man who came down the gangway with them, for the interested ones had picked him as George ,Cox, the Sussex professional, and they were eager to make his acquaintance. That was easy, for George was more than willing to ,go half way m making the acquaintance of the cricketers of his adopted country, and he was immediately' claimed as one of the boys. H.is ready smile has won the hearts of those he is schooling, and the association, with implicit faith m its professional, is entering the season with hope running high. From what has already been seen of the , recent arrival from overseas, it is evident that 'he has earned the fine reputation which -preceded him, and the. other Auckland professional, Bowley, who" was responsible for Cox's engagement by the Suburban Association, has earned the thanks of cricketers in' Auckland, for' his Sussex club-mate is already well on his way to "working wonders m suburban cricket.
