DEHOLD Commander Richard E. Byrd, U.S.N., leader of a party of crusaders against the great ice barrier of the South Pole. A young man this m years but old m knowledge of blizzards and of ice floes, of hardship and suffering. With Byrd m his great adventure go the cream of more than 20,000 of America's finest manhood who were eager to join the party. Byrd's organizing genius is making his Antarctic venture a finely modelled and adjusted mechanism, and the world looks on and hopes that the sacrifice of time and energy and labor m the advancement of science will not be m vain. Byrd goes out as did the crusaders of another country, with the prayers of our people for his success. New Zealand is glad to have shaken him by the hand.
