WHEN cleaning the commutator, either of the starter or the dynamo, emery cloth should not be used. The reason for this is that particles of emery are forced into any crevices between the segments of the commutator, and unless they are well cleansed out afterwards; '|they are likely, to form a short circuit .between segments. Emery is a conductor ofvelectricity. Sandpaper should be used.
