JELLICOE THOUSAND
Poser For Punters In The Big Event
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Kepresentative.) The thousand-pound Jellicoe Handicap at Alexandra Park on Saturday is likely to be a tickler for astute followers of the sport.
WITH form at Auckland and at Addington to go on, it was thought that some likely one would be dropped on to couple up early with the pick of the second "leg" on the first day at Otahuhu. It looks a proposition now, for, summing up the form wakes the punter up that two-thirds of the field have equal chances, and even then the list of possibilities has not been depleted. It's an unenviable position for the every-day plunger for when it comes to drafting the sheep from the coats, there aren't any goats. Viewing the latest doings of Native Prince, Western King and Jewel Pointer no indications were offered by them that would lead to the belief that any of the trio would tear off a stiff two-miler next time out. But knowing that they can when doing their best, give the speedometer, a spin, punters will not allow them out unbacked, otherwise the "heads" may be left high and dry. All the same Jackie Audubon may be selected to give them a shake, for he has more victories , up his sleeve than he has yet produced. There is another,, however, m Mate o' Mine that will prove a stumbling block from the front division, for his iimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
mustard-like finish last week when he topped off Vesuvius and Fight Ever suggested better things. There will be a bundle of money for Edw.ards' representative, and to sgr him beaten will be a blow to backers. Tne Shrew and Billy Sea are every bit capable of footing it all the way and being there when the whips are out, but on tne day they may be a little outclassed. Gold Jacket has hit the high spots with a bang, and is a better gelding than many imagine. With a couple of dinkum runs into him before he sports -the silks he will be as fresh as a flapper on Christmas Eve. He has demonstrated m the past that he requires a couple of rousing wake-ups to get him m real racing trim. Loch Moigh was sore and badly so when he raced last time, and as he ran a good second it only needs to see him right to be m the hunt all the way and m tit the death as well. The big event is open and from Mate o' Mine, Gold Jacket, Native Prince, Western King, Loch Moigh and Jackie Audubon they may sort out: MATE O' MINE, JACKIE AUDUBON. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiniiiiiniiiM
