TN all there are fifty-six races to reA ceive the attention of punters, and those who do the whole week need to be supplied with a good roll — or a lot of luck. Everything went wrong, for the just past carnival week. A favorite , won the galloping Cup : but then, an outsider rolled home m the Stewards. Still, with the . double on the two Cups, there was much hard thinking on the part of the books, but Peter Bingen saved their lives. And so It went the. whole week. Never could the punter get himself out of the mire. Early m the week backers were still smiling, but as each day sped by the smile was being knocked off. Saturday arrived and everywhere an inquiry was made it met with the same response: "They cleaned me!" There have been some bad New Zealand Cup meetings for punters, but it is questionable if there has ever been one so bad as that just ended.
