SHEIK MEETS HIS WATERLOO
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Wellington Representative.) "AH, what do you want to make those eyes at me for?" must have been . the plaintive song of two young flappers of Wellington last week. On a Friday night, too, while out seeing the gay sights of the city, a nasty, presumptuous man followed, them along the road. At a corner tram stop, the Rudolph Valentino, otherwise James Blackstock, stood a few feet away making eyes at them, eventually - walking over and bumping into one of the young ladies and passing the glad "how-do." But it was unfortunate for Blackstock that at the time of his little overtures a police officer, Senior-sergeant Scott, should happen along m mufti. Scott saw the little serio-comedy, called a constable who happened to be passing at the time, and had the gallant Lothario escorted to the station where he cooled his heels overnight. The incident was explained to S.M. Page m the Magistrate's Court next morning, when Blackstock was charged with unlawfully assaulting one of the girls. Lawyer Leicester, for accused, entered a plea of not guilty. Blackstock was not rudely molesting the girls. At the time he was under the impression he knew them, and if there had been any bumping it was accidental as accused had a few drinks m. In following the girls, the bench said accused's object was to strike up an acquaintance with them; He had followed and bumped into them and this constituted an assault. In entering a conviction and fine of £5, the S.M. stated young girls must not be molested m this manner. Default was, fixed at one month's imarisonment. <-T ■ • ■ ...■■' .4 .
