"£OFFIN, 12/6; fire grate, 7/6; ■ portable gramophone, 45/?." Such was the small fad," that stared out from the pages of an Auckland paper the other day, and the man m the street is not quite sure even now whether tM whole thing is a joke or simply an amazing illustration of business acumen. ' Who wants a gppd cpffi>, 89.109 cheap? Surely it is a bargain at the auoted price, but the coffin's associations represent a mixtuw* of grisly .horror and burlesque humor. *
For the. three articles catalogued, are surprisingly apt and *well^\ mated. Once having bought tho ' ooffin, why the fire grate a.n.d. the gramophone?^— a portable pne, be it noted.
No doubt .the man who buys the qoffin? should he be a believer m cremation, will find f ulf use for the fire grate, pn at least his heirs might, and what could be more entertaining when crossing the Styx than the portable gramophone,
.All the appurtenances fpn a trip to Paradise or the other plae*ngrid all for a total cost of £S/5/-. '
But the subject is getting mopbid. Anyhow, what offers?
