THOSE NEW GEARS

Shoot Changes Home To Sayfc Trouble DATHER than attempt to master the art of shifting the gears of the new car skilfully, it is a matter of dollars and sense to make sure to shift them fully. Much gear'trouble can be traced to running with gears only partly m mesh. When running m second, be sure the gear shift lever is as far toward the second gear position as it will go. The same rule applies to low, high and reverse, but especially to second. It is natural to fall into the habit of assuming that because second is to be used for only a. few minutes a perfect mesh is not necessary. ■ Gears that are run half meshed soon wear on the edges. The result is they develop the annoying and often dangerous habit of slipping out of mesh when you need them most. Also, a partial mesh of gears causes vibration and wear on the splined shaft and bearings. These parts, when worn, often cause gears to slip.
