Efficient Mayor
WHEN a man can claim an unbroken record of twenty years as mayor of
a town, and, it is said, has no opponent to deal with as the elections come round, he is either outstandingly popular or a remarkably efficient administrator.
But George Albert -Perry, Mayor of Hokitika, can claim such a record. Popularity and efficiency go fifty-fifty m his make-up.
Born on the West Coast, he has lived there all his life with the exception of a period of about eight years, when he was away m other parts of the Dominion studying and qualifying for the legal profession.
He took his degree and was m practice for a while m Wellington. But the death of his father brought him back to Hokitika, where he took over the reins of the business his father had built up.
The responsibilities m this field have kept him busy ever since, yet he still finds time to devote to the borough m many ways.
Hokitika knows and likes George — and he deserves all the popularity that is his.
