Lacerated Wound
Even above each temple, there was a bruise, and above the knee, a lacerated wound about an inch in length. .Irt many places the skin had broken and the cuts were surrounded by congealed blood. ' The police case and the inquest were conducted- conjointly before Magistrate R. W. Tate in New Plymouth last week. The committal to the Supreme Court followed a finding that Pirihira met her death through shock in consequence of a thrashing adminstered by Arapera Hadfield. The accused woman pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in a personal surety for £150 and another for a similar amount. Well dressed in a neat and simple style; Mrs. Hadfield sat in court beside .Lawyer I. Prichard, a young solicitor from Waitara. Her head was bowed and she was weeping. In her arms, part of the time, was an infant child, • and with her- were three European women.
