Envelope TKat Tells Its Own Story; ■ (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) "Bigger, better business." Such is the slogan of the Auckland Ad- ■ vertising Club (Inc.)i V which re- ; cently had its hectic fling m the . Town H,all. • . ' ' « THE organizers of the exhibition—. 1 that is to say, the committee of the Advertising Club— spread themselves. The whole building— with, of course, ; the exception of the council chamber, where the advertising is of a different nature — was engaged to display some ' of the secondary, industries of the Dominion and the local enterprise of a variety of business firms, air anxious for "bigger and better, business." There were at least two— perhaps three— printing firms represented with stalls displaying their up-to-date methods m all branches of their pajr- , ticular line, from color-printing to : envelopes. • It is m the matter of envelopes that these firms must have been more particularly interested, r Their bump of humor might- have been somewhat enlarged if they had' taken the trouble to examine the envelopes which were used by. the Advertising Club, for the little practical joke of the club was contained on the flap of the envelope which revealed so much of the slogan: ''Bigger, better . business." -,"•.. •■ \'V,' '.. These envelopes bear the inscription: "Postage reducer; pat. pending; Chicago Envelope Cpmpany, Chicago." 1 / ; So far .as "N.Z. Truth" is aware, there is no Chicago m this Dominion, though it is not yet too late for someV of our keen business men to "christen : some place with that •world-famed.; name or to emulate the methodatprac*tised there. . . .; I •' There are, however, those who know ■v only too well that it is 4ne of the most anti -British cities ofv the dollar-wor-shipping: States 'Of "Uncle Sam." "Bigger, better business" will not. we venture to ; say, be actually accomplished m this Empire outpost until. there is a greater sense of loyalty to our. own manufacturers, a greater discernment and a better business psychology-dis-played by those who would lead' any movement which has any relation to ,_■,.■ our own' productions. • Is it not possible fop our bright business men. to display, a better- . sense of the fitness of things, a ' > greater appreciation of Dominion ' loyalty? It is such things as this which render any concerted effort m the long run/ inarticulate, for the simple reason that V it leaves an impression : of insincerity and provides an opportunity for the cynical to ridicule.
