Cambridge Desires A Permit (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) It Is something unusual these days of heavy taxation to hear of a new racing club being formed. CUCH an attempt is, however, being v made m the, Waikato district, the idea being to resuscitate the old Cambridge Racing Club. At the present time, Cambridge has two days' sport — one day's hunt racing and the other trotting. Both these clubs are m a fair way, and there is little doubt that the proposed racing- club would make ends meet financially. This movement on the part of the Cambridge racing heads may seem strange to struggling racing and.trotting clubs further south, but m reality most country clubs within easy reach of Auckland city can battle along: somehow. Special trains from the northern city are easily arranged and they play their part m keeping the sport going, for there is a largo racing population up north. Matters have advanced so far at Cambridge for the new club to, bo already formed. The next thing is whether there will be a permit available! Then the new club officials will have to undertake to comply with the strict conditions necessary before racing permits can be secured nowadays. However, the newly-formed club is fairly optimistic, and arrangements are m progress to secure a long lease of the present race -course, which also serves as a trotting course and the show ground. A SURPRISE PACKET. COME people are beginning to refer to Uralla as a likely one to bowl up and surprise the natives m the Northern. She is trained away from Ellerslie, but won a hurdle ra,ce at Te Aroha m February.
