Politicians' Pay
W7HAT is a politician worth? The ** answer to this question is as difficult to arrive at as the answer to the chestnut query: "When is a man drunk?"
The Biblical adage that the laborer is worthy of his hire, applies just as forcibly to politicians as to men m other vocations.
The system of professional politics has many dubious features, but on the whole its benefits outweigh its disadvantages.
The outstanding advantage of the system is that it enables the working man to be directly represented m the Government of his country — an impossibility m the bad. old days of Tory Government.
• An equitable salary should be paid to politicians; but they should not have the power to increase it without a mandate from the electors.
