The Right Way To Decarbonize The job of decarbonizing is one which many experienced ownerdrivers feel confident of being able to carry out themselves. TN all essentials, this and the grinding m of valves are done m exactly the same way for a six- cylinder engine as for one of the four cylinder type. It is, however, as well to remember that owing to its length, the head of a six should be handled with considerable care when the time comes to secure it to the cylinder block. For example, if the nuts at one end are forced down tightly before proceeding to the other end the head may be seriously warped, making it impossible to obtain a sound joint with the cylinder block then, or indeed, thereafter. After the engine has run for 100 miles or so it will be advisable to go over the nuts again, as it will probably be found that they can be screwed down still farther, following which the valve stem clearances should be reset m the case of an engine with push-rod operated overhead valves.
