LOOSE COVERS
MEVER wash loose covers 5n soapy water, as the color is apt to fade. The best and most economical way to wash them is m bran water.
Place the bran m a muslin bag, leaving plenty of room to allow for it to swell. Put this m the copper full of clean water and allow to boil up slowly till quite a brown color.
Prepare three wash-tubs. Into the first put half bran-water and half cold water; into the second a little less bran-water and more cold water and into the third tub put very cold water to which has been added one tablespoon of vinegar and a handful of salt. This sets the colors.
Knead the covers by squeezing up and down m the first bran baths. Do not rub and do not use soap. Rinse m the last water and hang m a shady place to dry.
