FROM THE SOUTH
(By "The Toff.") THE track' was chain lightning at A Addington on Saturday. Pity Native Chief was not cut loose over a mile! * # * Taurekareka and Logan Chief were heavily parcelled for the Oxford Handicap, but neither had any chance. The front marker, Native Queen, stepped on the gas from the word go and put up a fresh mile saddle record for one mile for Australasia. * * * Native Queen is a brilliant pacer, but must have things to suit her. In all probability she will go to the stud later m the year. * # # Hue Coronado begins quickly, but he does not stay too well. E. C. McDermott might get him to go a decent mile. * # • Queen's General left the mark on the socond day at Addington, but Johnny McLennan was hard at work on her half a mile from home. The pace was too hot. • • • Edwards was all over Bingen Lad at the finish of the Oxford Handicap at Addington, but the best the gelding could do was to finish fourth. * * * F. E. Jones was on Sea Pearl m the mile saddle on the second day of the Easter meeting at Addington, but the clip set was too swift for her. # # * Enters Cup company — Padlock. * # * Peterwah is trotting well without an overcheck. # # # Author Jinks won't be long. # * # Talaro is right back to form. * * * They went too fast for Machine Gun m the big race on Saturday. He never had time to get his feet over the first mile. That fixed him.
