TURNED ROUND
And Was Badly Left At Barrier (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) After all that had been said about In the Shade's marvellous run from last to first m the Auckland Easter, it must have been disappointing to Owner Glenn — who was at Avondale, but not at Ellerslie — when the son of Australian Sun failed to repeat the dose m the Foley Handicap last Saturday. J7OR In the Shade was again last as the field got under way and trailed behind. There was some solid reason why he should be last on this occasion, for, as the barrier lifted, he was half-turned round the reverse way and victory was out of the question. Still, there was none of the previous week's dash about In the Shade. Despite the fact that the Easter Handicap winner was m at 7.11, the public summed up that his great run of the previous week would not be repeated, for he was made only fourth favorite m the big- handicap at Avondale. He may win races, but if ever he repeats that brilliant run of Easter Saturday it will be surprising to most keen followers of the game. Such long-sustained and determined I efforts are very rare.
