IT CAME TRUE
Hynanna Wins Like Tradesman Though very few people knew it, the Great Easter at Riccarton was won on a wishbone. "THE honors of the day went to the 1 second top-weight, Hynanna, ridden by Reg. Mackie. When the course was getting its soaking on the first ' .day, neither Mackie nor the trainer, Tim Daly, were at all confident of the issue, but Tuesday found the turf firmer. Mackie weighed out and when he was legged up m the bird-cage he wasj carrying with him. a wishbone. U The race calls for little description,! as from the turn home, there werel only two horses m it. ' 1 Lady Desmond had been m the ' third berth all the way and she took the lead with a little und<sr two furlongs to cover. : She was going strongly, but Barry soon found he was going to be m a fight. Hynanna had ranged up on the outer, having made a big forward move on the turn. He got to Lady Desmond and Barry pulled the stick on the mare. She kept with Hynanna for a few strides, but then the big-striding chestnut drew away and the race was m his keeping. Knowing he had Lady Desmond on the rails settled, Mackie did not worry about her again and he look*ed over his shoulder to see if anything was coming up on the outer. There was not, and he won by a good length. The performance put the seal, on Hynanna. Nine-stone six is a big load to carry to victory m any type of race, and the manner m which he did his job was very tradesmanlike. A nice horse, he does great credit to his sire, Hymestra, which could not do anything over a distance of ground. It was a lucky day when "W. R. Kemball bought Hymestra at the disposal sale of the Blairlogie stud.
