WEDNESDAY'S GOLD CUP

Star Stranger and Satrap Will Meet Once Again One of the most popular weight-for-age races run during the season is the Awapuni Gold Cup.

TpHIS event will be run on Wednesday 1 next and the distance — a mile and a-quarter — is reckoned to bo the est to try good horses out. Next week's event has drawn a specially good field. With horses like Star Stranger, Joy King, Reremoana and Satrap m the list of entries, there is every reason to expect a fine exhibition. It will probably be found that Star Stranger and Satrap are the .two best-liked candidates. Notwithstanding the ■ failure of 3atrap m the handicap the first day at Ellerslie, he can be expected to run a jig race over the journey with weight-for-age poundage. Star Stranger will bo carrying 9.2 and Satrap 8.6. On Trentham Gold Cup figures,

Satrap has now 81bs. the worst of it. Still, that should not matter a great deal to him when the shorter distance is taken into consideration. If the same tactics are to be adopted with Satrap as at Trentham, he will make it very hard for the older horses. The second,, leg of Jefferd's pair — Joy King — is not liked over the distance. It is also a bit far for Reremoana. He has had several essays m tenfurlong races, but to date he has to show up successfully. The mile Ormond Gold Cup a week later will be more to his fancy. At time of writing acceptances have not been taken, but even without them the pair that overshadow the rest are Sltrap and Star Stranger.
