FOR MARTON
A Promising Sort of Maiden No fault can be found with the programme of minor events offered for the first day at Marton. QUITE a "Wide range is covered and It should satisfy all present. The Trial Plate should see in action a promising sort in First Sight. Up to the time of writing he has haa two races at Awapuni for an equal number of seconds. Monday should see him getting very close to the winning list. !Le Champ and Plane are two fair teorts from Awapuni. Judging on the race he went at Awapuni, Blysiartdr will be hard to beat in the . hurdles. At a mile and a-half there he was up with Pouri. ] Kilburn will 1 probably appreciate the lesser distance and with Elysianor is the pick of the field. The Dash Handicap must be strenuously contested by The Raider and Arikiwai. Both won at Awapuni on Tuesday. Rising Star is one trained on the I course and he is by no means an or'dinary sort of performer. • Some Lad, following on his Awapuni ( victory, will have many friends in the '• New Year Handicap. He has shown some good track form <and lived up to it on the day. Limosa has so far failed to live tip to expectations and she must soon make a name for herself. Perhaps Barry understands her best. The pick of the others v ould be I [Vigilance. ONLY ONE IN IT SPHERE was only one in the Robinson [ * Handicap at Ellerslie when from No. 2 position Tea Time hit the front. It was ever afterwards a case of : follow the leader, and, though thero Was some doubt about Tea Time seeing out the seven furlongs, he did the deed handsomely. He had two and a-quarter lengths to spare from the next best when the line was crossed. . Tea Time may figure in the open six- < furlong Bowen Handicap on the final day Of the Ellerslie fixture. He may be expected to be up with the leaders for most part. # ' # * THOSE RECORDS TT is certain ig&e late G. G. Stead's ■ record so far as providing winners of the A.R.C. Royal Stakes is concerned will stand good for a few seasons yet. The late "G.G." colors were borne to victory in ten contests of the past, though G. D. Greenwood is mounting up with six wins. • The latter owner has the time record, both Farceur and Gloaming having run 1.13 in their years.
