Travels The Hard Road According to the old. saying, an old dog for a hard road and a puppy for the footpath. AT Awapuni on Tuesday this wisdom ** was carried into force with more than a passing remark. An old racecourse friend was to race that day, an.d. the public had not forgotten him. For some time past his lustre had been dimmed, but punters were prepared to let bygones be bygones. And Reremoana was made favorite for the Palmerston North Stakes. There was some pace on over the early stages and it found the favorite scratching, but he had got really into his stride when half a mile had been covered. Then his rider asked, him to do a little bit better and the old "ginger" fellow was equal to the occasion. Coming round the last bit of the bend with a full head of steam, he caught them up, passed them one by one, and went on to win in time that has many times been recorded — but never been bettered.
