DECISION WAS DOUBTFUL
When Fairhall Was Given Nod Over Trowern
(By Cable.— From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.) The boxing New Zealander, Reg. Trowern, dropped the decision to Tommy Fairhall, at the Sydney Stadium last week, but the majority of the spectators disagreed with Referee Wallis' finding.
TROWERN was always the aggressor and frequently Impaled Fairhall on a fine, straight left. Tommy did all he could to slow the contest down, but th© only destructive punch he showe.d, was a right to the head. ■ I Several times through the bout he landed this punch, and once or twice staggered " Trowern slightly, but the New Zealander weathered things to the finish and was always eager to j make a fight of it. | The verdict was far from favorably received and Trowern has lost no prestige m failing to get the award. Jack Paull (New Zealand) scored an easy win oyer the West Australian, Dick French (Newcastle), at the Sta- I dium on Friday night. Paull made a real mess of his opponent. |
French showed plenty of grit and wouldn't let his seconds throw m the towel after the fifth. He came up for the sixth very groggy and was soon down again and the towel cams m. Paull made a very favorable impression. He is a hard puncher who never gives ground. DOING WELL " THE ex-Dunedin amateur, Jack Paull, is doing well over the other side. After ' fighting his way through the prelim, ranks, he is now doing the main turn. 'Noticed m some of the comments on his flght that he still offends as he did as an amateur — hitting with the open glove and the heel of the hand.
