WANGANUI WHISPERS
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) I YSANDER has only one engagement *"• at the Feilding meeting — the Stakes. There are some hot ones engaged m the five furlong flutter, and punters will be set a problem to get on the winner. . # # # Since he raced at Trentham, Lysander has made much improvement and he will be ready to run a big race. He may not begin as well as of old, however, and it may be that he will do better over a longer course. Still, the son of Absurd-Pennon will take a power of beating at Feilding. • » • Covent Garden has never looked better than at present, and this speedy customs** ls likely to pick up some money at Feilding. # # # Episode is coming along m a way which points to the Limond-Hom-age filly proving of high class at Christmas time. She is to be given a race at Feilding m the Nursery, and this will do her good. * # # ' Mask is to be given a chance to distinguish himself m the Auckland Cup. The son of Limond-Cowl looks a picture, and much more solid than when he raced at Trentham. With the special preparation he is receiving, Mask should run out a fast two miles. • *■ . . • / The trip to Riccarton and the racing there did Civility no harm. She is m easy work again at the river city and looks fresh and well. She will go to I Ellerslie for the Railway Handicap,
Limited is said to be showing all his old brilliance over sprint distances, and he is likely to make a bold bid m the Stakes at Feilding. * # • Star Area can Jump and he might not be long m winning a hurdle race. He is to make his debut next week at Feilding over the small sticks. # # • Paleta may not be so good as some rated him after his Guineas win at Ellerslie, but he is better than he showed at Riccarton, and he may prove, this at Feilding next week. # # • Hulkai is striding out well, and Wallace Young should win a race shortly with this gelding. * # * By the way, Wallace Young had a win the other day. At, the Wanganui Show a prize was offered (a pram), for the flrst baby born nearest to the time of the official opening of the Show. This was at 2 p.m., and at 10 p.m. that day Mrs. Young had' the honor of securing the prize. # # # Whenuanui is showing plenty of pace over short courses and if he runs out six furlongs at his best pace, at Feilding he will take no end of beating. •* . # Bent does not appear to be ready yet, but she always goes much better m her races than on the track, and consequently she might show up at Feilding. » # # Kiosk will not want for support m any of her engagements at Feilding. The recent racing appears to have brightened the son of Tea Tray up.
There ls likely to be some spirited bidding for the full brother to Agrion to be submitted for sale at Trentham m January by George Currie.
Star Area has been schooled over thfe hurdles two or three times and has shaped well. He will be given a race over the sticks at Feilding.
Mask is being given a special . preparation for the Auckland Cup. The son of Limond showed indifferent form at Trentham, but this was probably due to the fact that the racing at Auckland had knocked, him back.
W. Price, of Wamyanui, has been appointed to do the starting at the Pahiatua meeting.
| ABOUT LIMERICK .
WITH the Cup " meeting over at Riccarton, . Limerick haa been asked to do very little work. He ls having a holiday after his strenuous spring campaign. That Limerick -will be seen racing m New Zealand again this season is unlikely. Fred Jones has an
idea to get the four-
year-old back to the other side early m the New Year and go on to Melbourne for the weightf or -age races. With them over, he will then return to Sydney for the Easter fixture. * # # AFTER closing hour for nominations •T* for the Woodville meeting, Secretary Bill Lyon must have smiled. The list of entries received was a very hefty one and th© club should be m for a good meeting. It ls deserved. # # # THERE is going to be no scarcity of * runners at the Feilding meeting next week, and the narrow, turning course may see some surprises. # # . • THERE are not a great many of the Archery stock racing m New-Zea-land, but m True Blood and Don Jose he has two reps, above the average. * # » THERE is a feeling that Bennanee races best with eight stone or under. It will be interesting to see how he goes m the Feilding Cup with nine stone. • • • JIM COYLE had a lot of fun at Levin on Saturday last. He won the first three races on the programme with Mister Gamp, Some Lad and Desert Lad.
