ALL EYES ON FORBURY
Some Pointers For Spring Trots 'Way Down South
(By "The Toff.")
THE Forbury Park Trotting Club's spring meeting will entertain followers of light harness racing at its convenient grounds on Friday and Saturday.
Desborough is a fancy pacer with a lot of speed but little heart.
THE course Is In splendid order and will remain so, provided, of course, that no rain visits the Otago capital.
The flrst item is confined to unhoppled trotters only that can step a mile and five furlongs m 4.3%.
At Oamaru Len Wood was driven over a lot of ground and won. That was' m harness.
He is a tough kind of a customer that should be at home with the saddle on, and what beats him on
Friday should get the money.
Hawkesbury's Pride goes well for J. McLennan and has on previous occasions displayed winning form m saddle contests. "He is only 24yds behind on Saturday.
Most people will fancy Dolores. She is a brilliant mare, but* one that makes bad breaks. Under saddle she may trot with more confidence.
So lt really looks as if Len Wood, Hawkesbury's Pride and Dolores will carry most money.
If Stockade Junior does not win the Progressive Handicap then the game is not fair.
He is very well and now that he has age on his side he -should be a tobey rocher.
He will meet a few smart pacers. Among those that may be mentioned are Sir Author, Homelight, Firebrand and Sadie Huon.
Of the party, Stockade Junior, Firebrand and Sadie Huon promise most. .
The mile saddle usually demands careful thinking for two reasons. First, it is necessary to locate the winner because it forms part of a combination that makes up "doubles."
Four Bells is a cheat, but. Robert Bell will make them go.
Omaha is a fast beginner and a real horse; so is Acre..
Then, Lady Embrace must be taken into consideration. So must General Bingen, who ran second to Final McKinney at Addington m 2.11 4/5.
He is on 2.14, from which mark he must be hard to beat.
In what points to being a very hard r„ace to pick, Acre, Lady Embrace and General . Bingen should be m the money.
Nelson Ata looks to have a mortgage on the Spring Handicap, for which only seven have been accepted for.
Randolph might go a good race from the back mark, but it really looks as if Nelson Ata will- prevail. .
Desert Star is a proved stayer, and he wiirgo a big race m the Caversham Handicap.
Logan Hanlon may not see out the /journey and two miles is too far for Acre.. ', At Addington Evelyn Locanda went a splendid race.^and from 72yds behind Fashion Queen will have to be reckoned with.
Desert Star, Evelyn Locanda and Fashion Queen will keep them busy.
On form nobody can have Herbilwyn for a two-mile trip.
Ingle Bingen is Gapable of leading all the way that is, if Nighborn does not annoy. He is very well and is a real stayer.
Engagement and. Young Blake will offer most resistance. The last race is the Dash Handicap of 300sovs.
Avenger and Jolly Chimes will go best of the front-markers, while Bob Logan will- be a nuisance from 12yds. They may divide the money.
