Good Postmaster
QTRANGE as it may seem, there are *3 quite a large number of Government servants who are really fond of hard work. In this select assembly a prominent place must be given to H. Winstone, postmaster of Hanmer Springs, that bubbly health centre which some say is m North Canterbury and others m South Nelson. A postmaster m a place like Hanmer Springs has many roles tb act. Theoretically, he is postmaster. Actually, Winstone has to look after Government insurances, Post Office Savings Bank accounts and a dozen other things provided by a paternal Government for the express benefit of a grateful populace and decidedly not for its own ultimate profit. Winstone has every reason to be glad when 5 p.m. chimes and he may close the door. He spends his days going, "at top" and, a very large portion of his work seems to consist of satisfying people on questions that are fully answered by notices on the walls. But Winstone, brave fellow, smiles through it all.
