Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. held a successful electric light meeting last week m Cook's Gardens. rUY BROAD won the 100 yds off 4yds . by inches only from F. Ford (6yds), after some fine running m the heats and final. Broad (9yd's) also ran a great race m the 220 yds, m which he was beaten by a few inches by Ward (14yds). ' ■"'.■■■.■■'■■%■ The latter was not- placed by the judges, who named L. Fear (16yds) as the winner, which was clearly a mist take, as Fear was well back fourth. 11. B. B. Newton started m the halfmile, but could only get third m 2 mm. 5 2/5 sec. '■.' ■ By the time the N.Z. championships come round Newton should be a very flit man as the result of having the! services of a capable coach. C. Gibbons ran on Thursday, this being his first run this season. He did well to finish third from "scratch m 4 mm. 38 2/5 sec, being only a yard behind the winner, K. Johnston, who got home by inches only off 40yds. The relay race of 400 yds was run by teams of four, up and ' down the 100 yds track. This was much appreciated by the crowd, who had the. runners under close, review all. the way. , lan Ross won the quarter-mile cycle handicap from scratch m fine style. He did not start m the two-mile event, which was won by his brother off 260 yds. ■ '
