High Crowns and High Prices

Fashion's overhead expenses are high these days, not only m crowns, but m prices. It is not so much the matter of prices as it is the matter of having hats for all occasions, which ■'unfortunately few of us can afford.

OUR efforts to secure something we really like among the vast assortment of felts,, velours and .velvets often meet with failure. ' The hat may suit, but. the price does not, or. vice versa, and so we compromise. In buying a hat, therefore, one should be careful to select a color that will tone with any frock m the wardrobe. This is not so difficult as it sounds, for those wonderfully useful beige-biscuit-dawn shades are still with us, and may easily be distinguished by a whole variety of delightful trimmings. Touches of bright color, embracing the new futuristic designs of contrasting material, may be introduced with excellent results. Trimmings of leather and crossgrain , bands are very popular, as also is the ! feather fancy.. • ■ • The crystal and cut-steel ornaments are m great variety and arc certainly a smart addition. Black, of course, is most fashionable, and wine color has a legion of supporters, but it is an independent color, and will not live m harmony with anything but its own tones. Blue is as difficult as it is.- charming.
